Upon returning from World War II, Ben Roy McLendon used his GI bill to buy a farm on the outskirts of Lyons, Georgia. I don’t know if Grandpa McLendon knew the legacy he was establishing when he bought those 300 acres, but he established farming and an honest day’s work as a way of life for our family.
From tobacco to commercial cattle to various crops, the family farm grew strong, and daily farm life instilled the solid values we still adhere to today. By the late 1990s, the farm had grown to 1,000 acres as Ben Roy’s son and grandsons took over the management of farm operations. The farm was without cattle for almost a decade after the patriarch’s passing, until the younger generation brought in a registered group of Charolais cattle to kick off Lone Pine Charolais.
This team—father Benny McLendon and sons Derek and BJ—are dedicated to honoring Ben Roy’s dedication, integrity, and farming ingenuity through the Lone Pine Charolais brand.
BJ now serves as manager for the cattle program, and oversees day-to-day operations to ensure adherence to the family’s values and dedication to constantly improving breed outcomes. Our breeding stock come from top genetic lines, and we raise them with personal care and attention.
Integrity bleeds into everything we do. Wholesome, honest business is a family tradition.
Combining the latest technology with the best traditional farming methods allows our customers to reap the benefits of both scientifically proven strategies and the personal care and attention of a family farm.
Our AI breeding program involves using extensive data to consistently produce well-rounded EPDs with lower birth weights and larger calves at weaning.
All our calves stay with their mothers until naturally weaned, and our cattle roam freely to forage native grasses in lush pastures. We supplement their foraging with hand-fed grains to keep each animal balanced, healthy, and docile.
Our commitment to the above values consistently produces bulls that are exceptional to work with and keep customers returning year after year to buy another Lone Pine Charolais.
Honoring our grandfather’s legacy by carefully tending the land and animals we are blessed with is the why behind our family operation.
